Vilgesvarre – The place for adventurous Sami hiking experiences – Summer and winter
Join us on a trip to beautiful, adventurous Vilgesvarre, which is an old Sami settlement from around 1850 and was vacated in 1958 after the settlement had been inhabited for well over 100 years
Vilgesvarre is a Markes Sami settlement where several Sami families have previously lived and up here in the mountains, you will see small old houses, a barn, a residential house, a basement and a large modern wooden lavvo and several tent lavvos that are set up in the summer.
Vilgesvarre is located in a scenic area and can be experienced both summer and winter and here we have activities such as freshwater fishing and ice fishing, canoeing, archery, lasso throwing and we go on a nature trail where we can see both moose, reindeer and eagles if nature is on our side.

Vilgesvarre is currently protected by the «Cultural Heritage Act» and by taking the trip up here, you also support the preservation of Vilgesvarre for future generations.

- Book the trip well in advance.
- Remember a water bottle, proper footwear and hiking clothes according to the time of year.
- The actual hike up to Vilgesvarre is a relatively easy hike from the parking lot, but the hike has some sections with a slight incline. Children who are a little used to hiking can handle this hike just fine.
- We spend around 4 to 5 hours on the trip up and down, when we go out from the parking lot. Driving to and from is additional.

This is an adventurous and magical adventure tour that you will not soon forget, because here the tour starts with us going up to Vilgesvarre, either on foot, on snowshoes or on skis.
We will live in the Sami way where we sleep in lavvo. Here there will be various activities such as catching some of our food by ice fishing, or how about catching a grouse yourself. We will prepare food over a campfire and we will make campfire coffee
There will be a trip to Jiedihalle, a cave formed 10,000 years ago and there will be storytelling and there will be a trip to Skittendalen and the story of the reindeer herding there and more.
